She stood, surrounded by armed guards. Linda was gripping the chain link fence so tight, she was bleeding. She knew that the gate was open. She knew that she could die at any moment. She didn’t care.
Linda watched as the man she loved was running toward her daughter. He was shooting, she was screaming, the zombies were attacking.
There were arrows pointing to the stairs up into the plane and a man in a hazmat suit. He waved to them as if to say get going. Kaylan glared at him as she took off her mask.

"You’ve come back.” Abram’s voice made Courtney cringe.
“Yeah. A bad habit that I’ve got to quit doing.” She was cocky.
“Let me rephrase that. You’ve come home.” He smiled.
“No, I’ve come to get my men.” She snarled again.
“I see why my son’s love you. Your tenacity.” He smiled at her as if she would give in to him.
“Your sons.” Courtney knew that she had to play along for the moment.

“We do something called witching or dowsing. It was taught to me by my father and his father before him.” Lucky smiled.
“Do a machine do it?” Taisiya asked as Lucky looked up to see the sky. When he couldn’t see what he wanted, he pulled a compass out of his pocket. He gave it a quick look and then walked to the truck, bringing back two bent copper rods.
“That’s why I bring her. I can do it, but she has better luck finding sweet water.” The man’s pride beamed like a light.
The couple watched as the man placed a witching rod in the child’s hands. He motioned for her to walk and she started at the driveway and walked into the tree filled yard.
The woman said something to the man in their language. Lucky turned, not wanting to take his eyes off his daughter.
“What was that?” He asked looking back to the child.
“She’s just amazed that such a small child knows how to wield such power.” Rafail translated but the father wasn’t really trusting.
“I said that I was named after someone important.” The boy beamed with pride being named after his grandfather and great grandfather.
“SR is too.” Margaret smiled. She knew that the boy would argue.
“There ain’t no Scarlett and there ain’t no Runa.” Arnold Vincent barked.
“Actually, there is. You’ve heard me talking with Mommy about the Great Red, haven’t you?” Margaret knew the children had.
“That was Red.” Arnold Vincent smiled at his twin.
“And her name was Scarlett.” Margaret smiled back at the boy.
“GreatGram, will you tell me about her?” Little Scarlett Runa slid onto her bed. Margaret sat in the oversized chair that she had just for this room. She enjoyed telling the children stories before bed.
“Come here baby girl. You too, brat. I will tell you all about the Great Red.” Margaret smiled as the children settled on her lap.
"I know of every species. Yours is resilient. Virus like.” He spoke as if talking about an experiment gone wrong.

“It can be.” The Elder looked down at her as they walked.
