Linda watched as the man she loved was running toward her daughter. He was shooting, she was screaming, the zombies were attacking.
There were arrows pointing to the stairs up into the plane and a man in a hazmat suit. He waved to them as if to say get going. Kaylan glared at him as she took off her mask.
“Mom.” Lilah whispered to her as Kaylan dropped the mask onto the ground.
“They’re all wearing hazmat suits. No point in us wearing paper masks.” She said as she climbed the stairs with her daughter. Lilah saw her point and took her mask off as well.
"You’ve come back.” Abram’s voice made Courtney cringe.
“Yeah. A bad habit that I’ve got to quit doing.” She was cocky.
“Let me rephrase that. You’ve come home.” He smiled.
“No, I’ve come to get my men.” She snarled again.
“I see why my son’s love you. Your tenacity.” He smiled at her as if she would give in to him.
“Your sons.” Courtney knew that she had to play along for the moment.
“Yes. My sons. Mathew always knew he was mine.
Lucky stepped down off the platform and approached his wife. He smiled and stepped up to Daniella. Lucky wrapped his arms around her. As he pulled away, a splinter in his hand caught her shirt.
“Oh goodness.” Daniella took his hand into hers and looked at the splinters. She began to pull the small metal slivers out of his thick callouses with her nails.
“Sorry, Sweetness.” He looked deep into her eyes as she pulled each sliver out.
“It’s ok.” Her smile grew with his.
“You are so good to me.” His whisper and smile made her smile bigger.
“I said that I was named after someone important.” The boy beamed with pride being named after his grandfather and great grandfather.
“SR is too.” Margaret smiled. She knew that the boy would argue.
“There ain’t no Scarlett and there ain’t no Runa.” Arnold Vincent barked.
“Actually, there is. You’ve heard me talking with Mommy about the Great Red, haven’t you?” Margaret knew the children had.
“That was Red.” Arnold Vincent smiled at his twin.
“And her name was Scarlett.” Margaret smiled back at the boy.
“GreatGram, will you tell me about her?” Little Scarlett Runa slid onto her bed. Margaret sat in the oversized chair that she had just for this room. She enjoyed telling the children stories before bed.
“Come here baby girl. You too, brat. I will tell you all about the Great Red.” Margaret smiled as the children settled on her lap.
"I know of every species. Yours is resilient. Virus like.” He spoke as if talking about an experiment gone wrong.
“You say that like it’s a bad thing.” Vux’un spoke freely. She figured if he was going to experiment on her, she would say what she wanted.
“It can be.” The Elder looked down at her as they walked.
